Sharon O'Connell

Sharon O’Connell Campbell, mezzo-soprano, has performed numerous opera roles, most recently the Third Lady in the Lyric Opera of Kansas City production of Die Zauberflöte. She has also appeared as Baba in The Medium and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro with Civic Opera of Kansas City. Dr. Campbell is a recent graduate of the University of Kansas, where she earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Vocal Performance, as a student of Joyce Castle. She holds the M.M. from the College Conservatory of University of Missouri-Kansas City (Inci Bashar), and B.M. from the University of New Mexico (Bradley Ellingsboe).
A 2007 Lotte Lenya Competition finalist, Dr. Campbell is at home in opera, musical theatre, concert, and recital repertoire. Recently, she appeared as a soloist in the Beethoven Symphony No. 9 with the Kansas City Philharmonic, and in Bradley Ellingboe’s Requiem with the Chicago Arts Orchestra. As soloist with the early music group, the Spencer Consort, she performed works by Handel and Buxtehude, as well as appearances with the ensemble Musica Nova (Kansas City) and the Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque. Her recent solo recitals have featured the work of Mahler and Berlioz.
Dr. Campbell joined the faculty of the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2008.
